Life & Finance #3 - Personable/likeable

I feel that most humans like to be around people who are easy to get along with. I think the trait of getting along well socially can contribute to personal success in many aspects of life. I’m not saying we should not question the way things are done, stand up for what we believe in, constructively argue, or never have a bad day. I’m simply saying that whether you are talking to a colleague, friend, neighbour, or a stranger on a customer service phone line, it’s important to be kind and respectful. Simple things like being approachable, smiling, asking others about themselves, and being mindful of your wording, are all important. These simple things will help you create a connection with people who will be more likely to want to help you out or on a more personal level, simply spend time around you.

Quote(s) – I apologize for only the male references; these are from an older book:

“The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated.”

“Always make the other person feel important.”

“Why prove to a man he is wrong?”

“If you argue and rankle and contradict, you may achieve a victory sometimes; but it will be an empty victory because you will never get your opponent’s goodwill.”

“You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself.”

“He who treads softly, goes far.”
